N2R Hosts Powerful Literacy Event at Eccleston Elementary, Providing Hundreds of Books and Hands-On Parent Training
Need to Read (N2R), a Florida-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to strengthening early childhood literacy, successfully hosted its Second Annual Eccleston Elementary Literacy Event on July 22, 2023—making a measurable impact on students and families across the Pine Hills community.
The event advanced N2R’s mission of empowering parents and building strong preliteracy foundations by placing high-quality books directly into the hands of children and equipping families with practical reading strategies they can use at home.
Major Accomplishments
- 165 Kindergarten–2nd grade students received five books each, helping young readers build their home libraries and encouraging daily reading habits.
- 210 students in grades 3–5 each received a book, reinforcing grade-level literacy and summer reading engagement.
- Parents received in-person training sessions on essential preliteracy and literacy skills, led by an esteemed education expert invited by N2R.
- Families enjoyed community-building activities, including drawings for exciting prizes such as gift cards, TVs, and bicycles.
“This event reflects what Need to Read stands for—putting books into homes, empowering parents to be their child’s first teacher, and creating joyful literacy experiences,” said a spokesperson for Need to Read. “When students have access to books and families have the right tools, literacy outcomes improve across entire neighborhoods.”
The Eccleston Elementary event is part of N2R’s growing commitment to improving early childhood literacy in Central Florida through book distribution, parent training, and community-based reading initiatives. By investing in children ages birth to five and supporting their families, N2R continues to drive meaningful change that strengthens academic readiness and long-term success.
