N2R Transforms Literacy Access at OCPS Academic Center for Excellence with Large-Scale Book Distribution and Family Engagement Event

Need to Read (N2R), a Florida-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to empowering families with early literacy tools, delivered a powerful boost to student learning during its literacy event at the OCPS Academic Center for Excellence (ACE). With a focus on equitable access to books, tailored reading materials, and parent engagement, the event left a lasting impact on hundreds of children and their families.

On January 26, 2023, N2R distributed curated book bundles and customized reading materials to nearly 1,000 students—expanding at-home reading opportunities and supporting grade-level literacy growth.

Major Accomplishments

  • Provided tailored book bundles to 227 Kindergarten–1st grade students, ensuring each child received age‑appropriate, developmentally aligned books to support early reading success.
  • Offered book selections to 720 students in grades 2nd–8th, allowing them to choose from specially curated titles that matched their interests and reading levels.
  • Hosted a high‑energy giveaway that incentivized parent participation with exciting prizes including gift cards, big‑screen TVs, and bicycles—strengthening family engagement in literacy.
  • Created a joyful and inclusive literacy experience where every child left with books, smiles, and renewed excitement for reading.

“This event shows the true power of community-driven literacy support,” said a spokesperson for Need to Read. “When children receive books that match their skill level and parents feel supported and involved, literacy outcomes improve across the board.”

The OCPS ACE event reflects Need to Read’s ongoing commitment to investing in early childhood development, supporting families, and increasing access to reading resources across Central Florida. Through book distribution, parent training, and community engagement, N2R continues to drive meaningful, long-term improvements in literacy.
